What a blue screen is useful for
- Pixel testing. On blue, a pixel with a failed blue part appears dark and stuck red or green parts stand out. See the dead pixel test guide.
- Blue chroma key. Blue was the standard keying colour in film before green. It is still used when the subject is green, such as plants, or wears green.
- Coloured lighting. A cool blue glow for photos, video and mood lighting.
- Checking uniformity. Blue makes clouding and uneven backlighting easy to see on LCD panels.
Blue light in the evening can make it harder to fall asleep, so this is not the screen to leave on as a night light. A dim red screen is a better choice for that.
