Green Screen
A solid green page (#00FF00). Press Fullscreen to fill the display and Esc to exit.
What a green screen is useful for
- A small chroma key background. Video editors can remove one colour and replace it with another image. Put a phone or tablet showing this page inside a scene, for example as a prop screen, and replace the green later. A monitor behind a small object works for product shots.
- Pixel testing. On green, a pixel with a failed green part appears dark. Check all colours with the dead pixel test guide.
- Coloured lighting. A green glow for a "hacker" look in photos and video. Pair it with matrix rain on another screen.
Limits of using a display as a green screen
A screen emits light, so it works differently from a green cloth. Keep the brightness moderate to avoid green light spilling onto your subject, and avoid reflections on glossy screens. For a full background behind a person you still need a physical backdrop. The default here is pure digital green; use the colour box if your editing software works better with a darker chroma green.
Green screen FAQ
Can I use my monitor as a green screen?
For small subjects and prop screens, yes. For filming a person you need a larger physical backdrop with even lighting.
Why is green used for chroma key?
Green is far from human skin tones and digital cameras capture the most detail in the green channel, so it separates cleanly from people.
What is the colour code of this green?
The default is #00FF00, which is red 0, green 255, blue 0.
