White Screen
A plain, pure white page. Press Fullscreen to fill the display, and Esc to come back.
What a white screen is useful for
- A soft light. A monitor or phone at full brightness on white makes a decent fill light for video calls, product photos and reading in the dark.
- Finding dead pixels. A dead pixel stays black, so it stands out on white. Follow our dead pixel test guide to check all colours.
- Spotting dust and smudges. Marks on the glass show clearly against white. For cleaning, a black screen shows fingerprints even better.
- Tracing. Lay thin paper on a tablet showing white and it works as a light box. Lock touch input or use guided access first so the page does not move.
- Checking brightness and colour. Uneven brightness, yellow tints and backlight bleed near the edges are easiest to see on plain white.
- A blank presentation slide. A clean projector image while you set up.
Tips
Turn the display brightness up for the most light, and turn off night mode or blue-light filters, which make white look orange. The colour box in the toolbar lets you pick an off-white or any other shade.
White screen FAQ
How do I make the white screen full screen?
Press the Fullscreen button or double-click the white area. Press Esc to exit.
Can I use a white screen as a ring light?
Yes. Set the screen to full brightness in full screen and face it. A larger monitor gives softer, stronger light than a phone.
Is a white screen bad for my monitor?
No. Showing white for a normal session does not harm a display. Leaving any static image on an OLED screen at full brightness for many hours can cause uneven wear, so do not leave it on overnight.
