Radar Screen
A rotating radar sweep with range rings and contacts that flash when the beam crosses them. It is a simulation for display, pranks and props.
The contacts are random. Nothing is being detected.
What you are looking at
This is the classic circular radar picture, known as a plan position indicator. The centre is the radar itself. The bright line is the direction the antenna is pointing as it rotates, and the rings mark distance. When the beam passes over an object, the object appears as a bright dot, called a contact or blip, and then fades until the next pass.
On this page the contacts are placed at random and appear and disappear on their own. The page has no access to any real sensor, location or aircraft data.
Uses
- Background for videos, streams and games nights. Good for a control-room or submarine look.
- Prank. Leave it on a screen next to the hacker simulator and say you are "tracking something".
- Stage and film prop. A moving instrument display that needs no operator.
- Teaching. A simple picture for explaining how a rotating radar builds its image.
